Have we mentioned that Rainbow Reels and the Princess Twin Cinemas will be hosting the art of local artists like Craig Musselman, in conjunction with the Masqueerade Gala? Well, you better believe it. The art will be displayed in the Princess Twin Gallery (downstairs in the theatre on 46 King St. N) during the Masqueerade gala, as well as during the weeks leading up to it. Unfortunately, this space is not wheelchair accessible. Check out the artist bio below!
Adventures in Photoshop: The Art of Craig Musselman
“This series is about FASCINATION. The past, the future, childhood hyperbole and adult fears-from mythological splendor to the shock of what technology will bring. Humans are curious creatures, their world in all its mundane ennui is sometimes made magnificent through the perception of the mind.”
When you look at the images, you will soon find that few of the objects started life as what they have become. In most of the images you can begin to play a game of I SPY. If you find the “PINBALL!” picture, you will soon find that no actual pinball machine was involved at all! Household objects and parts have been carefully manipulated, twisted, and transformed to become the artwork that you see. If you look closely you will find: a bathtub drain, a paperclip, Christmas lights and ornaments, a carriage clock, a camping plate, a hot chocolate can lid, plastic hangars, a fabric softener lid, bowls, wires, and even a lasagna pan…among other things.

The Rainbow Reels Queer Film Festival is calling for short film submissions to be part of the Shorts program during the festival, which will take place March 2-6, 2011.
Rainbow Reels is dedicated to featuring queer works that present images of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and trans lives and issues. We look for films that emphasize issues of multicultural diversity and gender and encourage local artists, critics and audiences to participate in the discussion of cultural identities and aesthetics. It is our goal to present the public with an opportunity to see and discuss the thematic, aesthetic and political concerns raised by the work of queer filmmakers. Read the rest of this entry »
