Every year Rainbow Reels Queer Film Festival receives much needed support from various community sponsors. We couldn’t do it without you!
Sponsoring the Rainbow Reels Queer Film Festival allows your organization to receive exposure to a large film loving audience.
Many of those that attend the festival also actively support businesses that support the LGBT community.
Benefits could include exposure on the screen before each show, in our document literature, posters and other marketing, & website. The Gala opening is also a wonderful areas open to sponsorship.

The End of an Era: Gen X Video
As most Kitchener-Waterloo locals will have heard by now, the wonderful independent video store Generation X Video, will be closing its doors on February 28, 2011 after 16 years of serving the community.
Gen X has been something of a cultural hub in KW. It has been the only place in the region to find many rare and out of print titles, not to mention a huge selection of foreign films, Canadian films, classics and LGBTQ titles.
The Gen X staff have been great friends to the KW queer community. Their selection of queer films is better than one can find at some video stores in Toronto or Vancouver and they even included a great LGBTQ section on their website. Rainbow Reels has enjoyed a strong relationship with Gen X for years. This is the first time that our tickets will not be available for sale at the store and we will miss their support.
Last week, Rainbow Reels organizers Cassandra Polyzou, Michael Schmidt and myself met with community leader Jeremy Steffler at Gen X. With a generous donation from WPIRG we were able to purchase a large number of classic queer films from the Gen X collection. We’re thrilled that a large portion of the collection will remain intact and we look forward to figuring out a way to continue to make the films available to the public. This is just one of several ways that Rainbow Reels intends to grow and make itself a more visible organization in KW. Stay tuned for news about where the collection will be housed and how it will be available.
Though we mourn the end of an era with Gen X closing, 16 years is a fantastic run! Please join us in thanking Gen X for all their support over the years and if you haven’t done so yet, head over to Regina Street and pick up a few of your favourite films!
Thanks for everything, Gen X!
