Are you interested in getting involved with KW’s amazing Rainbow Reels Queer Film Festival? We’re planning on making 2011 a show-stopping success and we want you to be a part of it!
Come to the WPIRG office (UW Student Life Centre room 2139, above Brubakers) to find out more about how you can be involved. You don’t have to be “queer” to volunteer!
Organizing an effective, engaging event requires a volunteer base that works as an effective (and hopefully well-nourished and organic) whole: kind of like how a body works! If you’re interested in being a part of the body of volunteers that makes Rainbow Reels 2011 what it is, check out the following teams and see if there’s anything that piques your interest… then, come to the volunteer meeting and find out more!
- Email info@wpirg.org
- Call (519)888-4882
- Or stop by the WPIRG office on the University of Waterloo campus!
Below are some volunteer opportunities that we are actively recruiting for:
“The Heart” of QFF
The heart is an organ that connects all parts of the body… blood pumps in and blood pumps out, and it’s the heart’s job to make sure that everything from head to toe receives oxygen and life force. That’s kind of like the Rainbow Reels Planning Committee! If you have a little bit more time to commit to the film festival, and you’d like to be a part of the group that makes sure everything gets done, runs smoothly, and reflects the values and vision of the film festival, then this is the opportunity for you!
Amount of commitment: High
“The Voice” of QFF
The voice is a part (or product) of the body that makes sure that a person is heard. The Voice of QFF is responsible for promoting QFF, for making sure that people in the community know who we are, what we do, and why we do it. This can be done in a lots of different ways, depending on what you’re good at. If you’re artsy or into graphic design, if you’re good at talking in front of groups of people, if you’re a witty writer, if you’re a tech-savvy communicator, or even if you just have great ideas for innovate new ways to promote an event or cause, then this might be a great area for you to contribute to!
Amount of commitment: Medium
“The Muscle” of QFF
A body’s muscles are what allow it to move, stand, build, resist, and basically get things done. It’s also what keeps it from falling apart. If you’d like to contribute to the film festival by helping out with the smaller tasks that need to get done in order for the festival to function, this is the team for you! Examples of necessary tasks include putting up posters, collecting tickets, ushering, decorating, making buttons, folding and stapling programs, and lots more!
Amount of commitment: Low to medium (depending on how many tasks you pick up)
“The Face” of QFF
Okay, so maybe we’re over-extending the metaphor a little bit here. But the face is the part of the body that people look to in order to feel warm and welcomed. We need a group of volunteers to plan the Rainbow Reels Gala event, which is on the opening night of QFF (March 3rd); the point of the gala is to bring community together, celebrate our passions, anticipate the films we’re about to see, and have a great time! If you’re really organized or just know how to throw a great party, then this might be something that you’re interested in.
Amount of commitment: Medium
Do you have skills/talents that you don’t really see reflected in any of the groups above? Or did you miss the volunteer meeting? Email us at info@wpirg.org and let us know what’s up!!
