Who We Are

Welcome! We are excited in our 8th year to be moving to a new larger venue at the King Street Theatre Centre. This will allow us to screen more films to the community at large. We look forward to joining members of the Tri-Cities LGBT community to celebrate diversity at its best.

Festival Purpose Statement: To present images of gay, lesbian, bi & trans lives and issues.

Vision Statement: The queer film and video festival features internationally acclaimed gay and lesbian works that present images of gay and lesbian lives and issues; emphasizes issues of multicultural diversity and gender; encourages local artists, critics and audiences to participate in the discussion of cultural identities and aesthetics and generally to present the public with an opportunity to see and discuss the thematic, aesthetic and political concerns raised by the work of lesbian and gay filmmakers.

WPIRGAbout WPIRG: The Waterloo Public Interest Research Group (WPIRG) is a student-driven human rights, environmental and leadership centre located at the University of Waterloo. WPIRG is the oldest PIRG in Canada. It was started in 1973 after UW students, inspired by a visit from Ralph Nader, decided that the resources and knowledge available on campus can and should be used to change the world for the better. WPIRG is a bridge between campus and community where students work in the public interest! Visit: www.wpirg.org

Mandate: Founded in 2001, The Rainbow Reels Queer Film Festival was founded by the not for profit organization WPIRG. Its purpose was to educate and challenge the Waterloo regions perceptions of the queer community at large.
