For 17 years Rainbow Reels Queer and Trans Film Festival has been bringing queer and trans centered art and film to Waterloo Region and Southwestern Ontario.
Rainbow Reels is run by a committee of community organizers and local artists. Previously funded through WPIRG at the University of Waterloo, Rainbow Reels is now an independent arts collective. We are local artists and organizers committed to building a rainbow community in Waterloo Region. A handful of local organizations have worked together to make this festival possible: Plan B, an alternative queer community project, LOL Comedy (Ladies and LGBTQ2+), Waterloo Aboriginal Education Centre, and Salaam KW, a space for queer/trans Muslim people. We encourage you to find out more about these groups and get involved!
Thank you to our new 2017 funders the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Kitchener, and the WLU Diversity and Equity Office, as well as returning sponsor LSPIRG. We are glad to be back supporting local independent theatres. Thank you to Princess Cinema in Waterloo, who has been a supporter and venue for 17 years.
